For 21 years, A Shelter for Cancer Families (ASCF) has been building a community that provides the stability, shelter and support that cancer families depend on when seeking, often, lifesaving care in the Texas Medical Center (TMC). In 2019, we capitalized on the opportunity to expand our free short-term housing program and to bring our cancer community together with the purchase of the Drake street property near the TMC. The campus is comprised of 15 private residences, a community welcome center, recreational area and our business office. Since this acquisition, our capacity to house families has more than tripled, helping to alleviate the financial stress for families who need a "home away from home" when navigating a cancer journey in a new city.
With a thriving cancer community, and a constant waitlist of families in need, it is imperative that we ensure the integrity and longevity of the community that we have tirelessly worked to build. Together, with our trusted partners, our Support the Journey campaign will address the financial obligations and capital improvements of ASCF so that we can continue to lift the burdens of our cancer families for generations to come.
Choose to Support the Journey and you will:
Ensure our ability to continually provide 5,475 nights of housing a year to approximately 150 cancer families
Help make imperative capital repairs and improvements across our fifteen residential units, a Welcome Center and across campus grounds
Allow for ADA adaptations to be installed so cancer patients experiencing mobility limitations have the opportunity to stay at ASCF
Improve and expand ASCF's program capabilities and further our mission
Leadership Gifts &
A cancer journey is unique to each patient, caregiver, loved one and supporter. As donors, you make our mission possible so that we can lift some of the greatest barriers and burdens for cancer families who travel in search of treatment here in Houston. Together, with your one-time gift or pledge to Support the Journey, we are ensuring that there is always a community for cancer families who need stability, shelter and support. To recognize and honor your commitment to the future of ASCF, you will be included in a beautifully commissioned stained-glass and mirrored mosaic wall that will be a symbolic representation of the cancer journey, designed by Katy Antill of Legacy Mosaic. This custom creation will reside at the front of the complex and complimentary pieces placed for the commemorative opportunities to remind every family that ASCF and its donors are a community that is supporting them throughout their cancer journey, and no matter where they are on their journey, they are surrounded by a compassionate and caring community.

Each level will be beautifully incorporated in our campus legacy wall as well as a complimentary piece displayed in the respective naming rights areas.
