"No one is more cherished in this world than someone who lightens the burden of another.”

The volunteers at A Shelter for Cancer Families (ASCF) are the heart of our organization. It is through their time and talents that the most remarkable impacts are made on the lives' of our cancer families.

Our volunteer needs are continuous, and we are currently evaluating what opportunities we can resume post Covid, as well as new ways to serve at ASCF. Please complete the Volunteer Application, so you will be in the know!

current OPPORTUNITIES

Dinners at Drake. We are so excited to be able to offer the opportunity to host a monthly dinner for our cancer families living at our apartment complex located on Drake Street. Families, community groups and companies are welcome to host, pick a theme and the date that works best. Inquire about availability at [email protected].

Celebrations.  Help us create memorable occasions for our families navigating the cancer journey!  These volunteers help coordinate:
  • Milestone Celebrations - Celebrating the moments and making the memories that mean the most to our families is so important. From birthdays to anniversaries to the end of treatment bell ringing, we work to give them a special day to remember.
  • Holidays and Special Observances - We strive to ensure that our families (in residence and around Houston) don't have to miss celebrating the holidays and other special days. Volunteers help decorate, create and donate gift baskets and other fun, creative ways to celebrate.

Fundraising Events .  Have a knack for raising money or event planning?  We would love your help with coordinating some of our annual events such as Hearts of Gold and Catwalk. We also encourage individuals, community groups and companies to fundraise on our behalf. Contact [email protected] for more details and ideas.

To serve as a volunteer for A Shelter for Cancer Families. Please complete the following:
  • Volunteer Application.  You will receive a confirmation receipt once we have received your complete application.
  • Confidentiality agreement.  To be completed by all 16 years old or older.
  • Background Check.  All volunteers 18 years old or older must submit to a criminal background check prior to receiving an ongoing volunteer placement.
  • Children under the age of 16 may be able to volunteer for some activities if they are accompanied by a supervising adult.
